Today, we're going to focus on the pronunciation of a delicious word: the very iconic French ‘macaron’. You probably all know what a macaron is, but if you don't, feel free to google it, and it will definitely make you want to eat one of these!
Let's dissect the pronunciation of 'macaron': [makarõ].
[ma]: the letter 'm' is pronounced just like in English, and the letter 'a' is pronounced [a].
[ka]: The 'c' in French can be pronounced in different ways, but in that word, it is pronounced like the letter 'K' [k] in English! And we have the letter 'a' again, pronounced [a].
[rõ]: With the French 'R' [r] again, please refer back to episode 21 for some tips on how to pronounce it. Then, the letters 'on' are pronounced [õ] in that word. This is where many English speakers tend to stumble.
Now if we put all these sounds together, we have: 'macaron': [ma.ka.rõ].
There you go, you've pronounced ‘macaron’ the French way!
