I'm your host, Mathilde, and I'm a French teacher, mumpreneur, and bread and cheese lover. Join me as I dive into all things French for beginners, and deliver to you bite-sized and easy-to-follow lessons every Tuesday. Let's get started, "on commence"!

Hello everyone! Bonjour tout le monde. 💛 Welcome back to the French Made Easy podcast! This is episode number 101, numéro 101.

So today, as you've seen from the title of this episode, we're doing some.... conjugation! 👏👏👏 It's been wayyyy too long.

If you've followed the podcast for a while, you know that I always recommend learning irregular verb conjugations by heart, so that's what we're going to do. I've taught a few important irregular verbs conjugated in the present tense already, and now we're going to see some important irregular verbs conjugated in the future tense, and more precisely in the simple future tense. (I will be etc.)

And today we'll learn "être" (to be.)

Ok so as usual, if you're new to the podcast, make sure you have your lesson's cheat sheet in front of you during the lesson. After the lesson, head over to the French Made Easy library to practice what you've learned today. All the links are in the episode notes.

Now, if you are completely new to French conjugation, I highly suggest you go back to the start of the podcast. You can begin with episode number 15, where I share the conjugation of "être" (to be) in the present tense. And you can also check out episodes 48 and 64, where I explain the difference between "tu" & and "vous" and "on" and "nous."

So we're going straight into it, and then I'll give you some examples after.

Repeat after me:

  • je serai (I will be)

  • tu seras (you will be)

  • il / elle / on sera (he / she / we will be)

  • nous serons (we will be)

  • vous serez (you will be)

  • ils / elles seront (they will be)

Let's now a few examples using the verb "être" in the simple future. You can also repeat after me if you want to practice your pronunciation.

  • Je serai bientôt là. (I will be there soon.)

  • Est-ce que tu seras disponible vers 16h00? (Will you be available around 4:00 p.m.?)

  • Il sera très content de vous voir. (He will be very happy to see you.)

  • Nous ne serons probablement pas à l'heure. (We probably won't be on time.)

  • Vous serez bientôt en vacances. (You'll be on vacation soon.)

  • Les magasins seront fermés demain. (The shops will be closed tomorrow.)

And there you go, now you know the conjugation of "être" to be in the simple future tense. I hope you enjoyed today's episode. Thanks so much for listening. And I'll chat with you in the next episode, where we will learn "avoir" (to have) in the future tense.

À bientôt. 💕
