I'm your host, Mathilde, and I'm a French teacher, mumpreneur, and bread and cheese lover. Hello everyone! Welcome back to the French Made Easy Podcast. This is episode number 83, numéro 83!
In today’s episode, we stay on the “things in town” topic! You'll learn the names of 15 shops in French, such as bakery, florist, etc.
If you're new here, make sure you have your lesson's cheat sheet in front of you so you can see the words while listening to the lesson. The download link is in the episode notes, on the podcast platform you're listening to. After the lesson, head over to the French Made Easy library to download your lesson's exercises. It's free.
Alright, on commence. Let's get started!
Please repeat after me, répétez après moi.
la boulangerie (bakery) -> le boulanger, la boulangère
le ou la fleuriste (florist)
le salon de coiffure (hairsalon) -> le coiffeur, la coiffeuse
Now we more commonly say "le coiffeur." Same as in English. "I go to the hairdresser" = "Je vais chez le coiffeur." Attention though, for "salon de coiffure" you don't use the preposition "chez."
"I go to the hairsalon" = "Je vais au salon de coiffure." BUT "I go to the hairdresser" = "Je vais chez le coiffeur." Different prepositions.
Don't worry. I'll have a lesson on prepositions after the verb "aller" (to go) coming soon.
Alright, let's get back.
l'épicerie (grocer's) -> l’épicier, l’épicière
le magasin de fruits et légumes (fruit and vegetable shop) -> le marchand ou la marchande de fruits et légumes
le magasin de chaussures (shoe store) -> le vendeur, la vendeuse
le magasin de vĂŞtements (clothing store) -> le vendeur, la vendeuse
Et voilĂ ! That's the end of today's episode. I hope you enjoyed it. Don't forget to go practice with the exercises. Thank you so much for listening. I'll chat with you next week. Merci beaucoup et Ă bientĂ´t.
